Workshop 2 – 24th April

Masterclass: Caliban, Prospero and Ariel – Tom Latter & Bryn Holding

Caliban, Prospero and Ariel – it’s complicated. In this workshop we will address the question of how to portray the non-human characters in the play, and their relationship to the human. What if Ariel is really in charge? Where does Caliban’s power and sympathies lie? What has happened between them all in the past? What humour and playfulness can we find to offset the darker elements of the play? And how might the portrayal of power and difference sit with a modern audience?

“As you from crimes would pardoned be,
Let your indulgence set me free.”
