Founded in 2011 out of a shared desire to explore the classics, we believe theatre should be available for everyone, and we embrace the infinite possibilities of Shakespeare’s work. For up to date news on Scaffold, join our MAILING LIST
We stage vibrant collaborative productions to bring these stories to life for today’s audiences, creating shows for theatres and other performance spaces. Our debut production Speak Low If You Speak Love, a dramatization of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, was co-produced with Hampton Court Palace in February 2017.
Our next production of two Shakespeare plays in rep will tour UK theatres in 2020.
Through regular workshops, we are committed to creating inclusive opportunities for Shakespeare enthusiasts and novices alike to discover their own relationship to Shakespeare, to find how his work still matters to them, to make it their own. Workshop projects to date include The Complete Plays (2013-16), Warring Love (histories and comedies, Spring 2018), Rome! (the Roman plays, Autumn 2018).
In early 2019 Walking Shadows will see us workshop the tragedies.
“Scaffold approach Shakespeare with vigour, rigour, and a relentlessly enquiring mind. Their workshops are inclusive, incisive and playful. It is well worth joining the Scaffold family.” Giles Taylor, actor and Shakespeare consultant/author
